Artistic Director of the GGL Corporate Foundation, Numa Hambursin was born in 1979 in Montpellier. Son of gallery owner Hélène Trintignan, he opened his first gallery at the age of 23. In 2010, he became artistic director of the Carré Sainte-Anne in Montpellier. In this former church, the young artistic director invites important artists and invents with each one a new way to capture the history and the space of this extraordinary place. Jean-Michel Othoniel, Jonathan Meese, Carole Benzaken, Barthélémy Toguo, JonOne, Léopold Rabus, Stéphane Pencréac’h, Robert Combas, Manuel Ocampo, Chiharu Shiota, Hervé Di Rosa, Marc Desgranchamps and Gérard Garouste succeeded each other for seven years.
During this period, Numa Hambursin also directed the programming of the Dominique Bagouet space, where he endeavored to showcase historical figures from Languedoc art and heritage. From 2018 to 2021, he has been Director of the Pôle Art Moderne et Contemporain de Cannes (PAMoCC).
In charge of the Contemporary Art section for the real estate development company HELENIS since 2013, he has participated in the realization of several residences by associating many artists (Abdelkader Benchamma, Alain Clément, Bernard Pagès, Vincent Bioulès, André Cervera, Stéphane Pencréac’h…).
In 2018, he won the AICA France prize for art criticism with an intervention around the work of the artist Marlène Mocquet (published in 2020 by Sometimes).
With the GGL Foundation, Numa Hambursin has endeavored to create a dialogue between the historical legacy of the Richer de Belleval Hotel and contemporary art, wishing to show that today’s art can also be inscribed, without blushing, in the direct lineage of that of yesteryear.
